CJ Stroud will be out this week due to injury when Ohio State takes on Akron. That means Kyle McCord and Jack Miller will be taking the majority of the snaps for the Buckeyes this weekend.
We took a look at McCord, a former 5-star recruit, yesterday. Now, we’ll get to know Miller, who spent a year in the system behind Stroud and Justin Fields last year.
Here are three things to know about the redshirt freshman ahead of the Week 4 matchup:
He can run
Ryan Day sure likes his dual-threat quarterbacks. In Miller’s only appearances last year as a true freshman, he ran for 23 yards, including a 21-yard touchdown run against Nebraska.
Miller’s legs add another layer to the Buckeyes offense, and it’ll be interesting to see how his skills are used this week.
Highly touted high school recruit
Miller had a lot of eyes on him out of high school, including a good amount of big-name schools.
He was a 4-star recruit in high school and held offers from Alabama, Michigan and Michigan State, among many others. He still holds the Arizona state record for passing touchdowns with 115 in a season and was ranked as the No. 14 quarterback prospect in the nation by 247sports.
He has experience in the system
Miller spent last season behind Stroud and Fields, which allowed him to get some experience with the offensive system. With Stroud out this week, he has a chance to showcase how much he learned last year and prove why experience matters.
He didn’t throw a pass last season, but did carry the ball 2 times for 23 yards and 1 touchdown.
