Because it honors a Native American leader who has been a motivation to generations, CHICAGO– The Chicago Blackhawks say they will continue to use their team name.
” The Chicago Blackhawks name and logo symbolizes a important and historical individual, Black Hawk of Illinois Sac & & Fox Nation, whose leadership and life has actually influenced generations of Native Americans, veterans and the general public,” the NHL team said in a declaration Tuesday.
” We celebrate Black Hawks legacy by providing continuous reverent examples of Native American culture, contributions and traditions, providing a platform for authentic discussion with regional and nationwide Native American groups. As the groups appeal grew over the past decade, so did that platform and our work with these essential organizations.
” We acknowledge there is a fine line in between regard and disrespect, and we commend other teams for their determination to take part in that discussion. Moving on, we are dedicated to raising the bar even greater to broaden awareness of Black Hawk and the essential contributions of all Native American people.”
Under restored pressure to alter their name, the NFLs Washington Redskins announced a “thorough evaluation” of the concern. In baseball, the Cleveland Indians are looking into it, while the Atlanta Braves decreased to do so.
