The Chicago Blackhawks Foundation had formerly partnered with the American Indian Center of Chicago (AIC) to educate the general public about American Indians, however the AIC ended that contract in 2019, citing the perpetuation of “hazardous stereotypes.”

Cleveland Indians are likewise talking about the possibility of altering the group name, while the Atlanta Braves have decreased to do so.
The teams logo design, largely unchanged because 1959-60, is of a large Native American head with plume headdress and face paint.
” We acknowledge there is a fine line in between regard and disrespect, and we applaud other groups for their desire to engage in that conversation,” the group stated. “Moving forward, we are committed to raising the bar even higher to expand awareness of Black Hawk and the essential contributions of all Native American individuals.”
The Chicago Blackhawks compete its nickname in fact honors a reality Native American, and the team has no plans to make any modifications to its name and logo design.
” The Chicago Blackhawks name and logo design represents a historical and crucial individual, Black Hawk of Illinois Sac & & Fox Nation, whose leadership and life has influenced generations of Native Americans, veterans and the general public,” the team said in a declaration.
