In her letter, Loeffler prompted WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert to cancel these plans, rather putting American flags on all uniforms and clothing. Loeffler, a strong Trump supporter, is
dealing with an intense reelection project versus fellow Republican Doug Collins this November.
The WNBA purposefully distanced itself from the senator Tuesday,
saying, “Sen. Kelly Loeffler has not worked as a Governor of the Atlanta Dream given that October 2019 and is no longer associated with the daily service of the team.”
Tuesday, the company distanced itself from Sen. Kelly Loeffler of Georgia, a co-owner of the Atlanta Dream, following her objection to the WNBAs strategies to honor the Black Lives Matter motion.
” The WNBA is based upon the concept of equivalent and fair treatment of all people and we, together with the players and groups, will continue to use our platforms to strongly advocate for social justice,” the league
stated in a statement.
Loefflers letter followed the WNBA revealed its plan to show “Black Lives Matter” plainly on its basketball courts. The leagues gamers also prepare to
use warmup shirts with the words “Black Lives Matter” displayed on the front and “Say Her Name” on the back, alongside Breonna Taylors name.
Loeffler co-owns the Dream, Atlantas WNBA franchise, and is the most affluent member of the Senate. Previously this year,
Loeffler came under fire for stock trades made before the coronavirus pandemic shuttered the economy.
Former Atlanta Dream and University of Louisville gamer Angel McCoughtry spearheaded the project.
Loefflers workplace did not react to CNN at the time of this short articles publication. Tuesday afternoon, though,
she tweeted: “@WNBA ought to mean and unite around the American Flag– not divisive political motions like BLM that unapologetically seek to defund the cops.”
Layshia Clarendon, a former Atlanta Dream gamer and member of the leagues freshly produced Social Justice Council, shared her disgust with Loeffler on Twitter, composing, “I cant think I ever stepped foot in Kellys house and shared a meal with her. Its in fact truly hurtful to see her real colors.

The WNBA is planning for a 22-game routine season to begin in late July.
Former players and members of the WNBA Players Association right away called for Loefflers elimination.
