Apple Is Getting Into Podcasting for Real – Gizmodo

The everyday news podcast became part of a series of new offerings Apple announced in a post on Wednesday and follows a report from Bloomberg last year that the company was preparing to pony up for podcast originals– by the way, just months after Spotify began snapping up podcasting companies for its own service.
The services game is a genuine rat race these days, with almost everybody and their mama launching a new streaming item of some kind. And with Apple broadening its services to include gaming, news, music, and entertainment– and given that it has an entire app for this kind of thing– it makes it would lean into original podcasts.

Apple News Today, hosted by Apple News editors Shumita Basu and Duarte Geraldino, will be available Monday through Friday morning in the News and Podcasts apps. No specific coverage plan was revealed, but the company said the podcast would “guide listeners through a few of the most interesting stories in the news– and how the worlds best journalists are covering them.”
The business also announced that its rolling out Apple News+ audio stories starting Wednesday and moving on at a clip of about 20 weekly. These are audio variations of long-form stories from Apples publishing partners and will be readily available on Apple News+, the company said. Apple News, on the other hand, will get additional regional news curation from local publishers for users in choose cities, including the Bay Area, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco.

As part of its ever-expanding slate of services, Apple is wagering on initial podcasting with its newly revealed everyday news program, Apple News Today.
