BADUNG, Indonesia (Reuters) – An Australian female sentenced to four years imprisonment over the death of a police officer on the Indonesian island of Bali was given early release on Thursday, and was keen to be reunited with household, her attorney stated.
Sara Connor, 49, was imprisoned in March 2017 together with British male David Taylor for their roles in the death of a traffic policeman, whose body was found on the popular Kuta beach with neck and head injuries.
Connor was released 13 months short of her complete term due to her excellent behaviour.
The 2, who were a couple, were tried independently and Taylor, who remains in his mid 30s, received a six-year term.
Using a headscarf, Connor did not comment as she left the jail surrounded by guards, who helped her through a scrum of professional photographers and into a car that took her to a migration center.
” I think everybody who will be launched will be very happy, particularly when she wishes to meet the family, but I dont understand about the next strategy,” said Sienny Karmana, Connors legal representative.
Karmana included that Connor would go back to Australia on Friday.
During a trial that drew in significant attention in Indonesia and Australia, the offenders both denied murder and said a fight broke out over Connors missing out on purse.
Connor had affirmed that she saw Taylor beating police officer Wayan Sudarsa, but the judge ruled that she had actually held the victim down while he was being struck.
