The race was preparing to go green after Will Power triggered a caution when his left-front wheel came off the car after a pit stop. As Pato OWard led the field to green, IndyCars race control didnt like what it waved and saw off the restart extremely late. As chauffeurs tried to decrease after accelerating off Turn 4, Hertas cars and truck hit VeeKays and went airborne.
Fortunately, Herta climbed from his automobile and was OK. His car avoided flying into the catchfence and landing on top of the outside wall.
This is what it appeared like from Hertas in-car cam.

The crash was the very first big test of IndyCars aeroscreen head defense for drivers. Hertas car introduced over VeeKays right by the cockpit of VeeKays vehicle and a piece of debris from Hertas car hit near the cockpit of Marcus Ericssons automobile.
IndyCar set up the protection for chauffeurs ahead of the 2020 season. The screens were long past due in an effort to make IndyCar chauffeurs much safer and avoid catastrophic head injuries.
