Indie dev turns Bloodborne 2D in Zelda-like Yarntown – Polygon

In the middle of June, Mraz launched Yarntown free of charge on itch.io. Yarntown takes place in Yarnham, the world of Bloodborne, but takes visual and gameplay motivation from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.

Bloodborne is a lot of things– the best game of the generation, according to some– and “adorable” isnt one of them. However indie developer Max Mraz dared to answer the question: What if Bloodborne was charming? And therefore, Mraz birthed Yarntown, a 2D The Legend of Zelda-inspired variation of Bloodborne, into presence.

In spite of its pixel art and 2D animation, Yarntown likewise has the familiar gameplay components of Bloodborne. Gamers can level up, earn Blood Echoes, roll to dodge opponents, manage their endurance meter, heal with blood vials, and slash at Gothic baddies with their Hunters blade. The video game even features a minimum of 2 of Bloodbornes early employers: the Cleric Beast and Father Gascoigne.

Players can download Yarntown for free from Mrazs itch.io page. Mraz explains it as “a Zeldalike tribute to Bloodborne. Check out the streets of a cursed, Gothic town, searching monsters and discovering twisted employers.” Its currently playable on Linux, Mac, and Windows PC, and offers some controller support.
