NASCAR prepares to speak to novice Quin Houff this week about his “extremely poor decision” to dive below the second lane in Turn 4 and effort to get in pit road late in Sundays Cup race at Texas Motor Speedway.
When Houff, who was nine laps behind the leaders at the time, came down the track, he struck Christopher Bell and Matt DiBenedetto. The contact brought out a care on Lap 307 of the 334-lap race and drastically modified the event.
DiBenedetto was crucial of Houff on social media later, stating of the chauffeur “This guy having zero awareness destroyed our day … Lovely.”
Houff published a video on social networks taking blame for the incident.
Scott Miller, NASCAR senior vice president of competitors, was asked on “The Morning Drive” on Monday by NBC Sports Nate Ryan about what actions the approving body would take with Houff.
” I believe no one could argue that it was a really bad decision,” Miller said on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. “Yes, we do examine every event of every race. We didnt speak to the motorist (Sunday) night, but we will prior to we get going again at Kansas (on Thursday night). Got to do much better than that. Racing occurrence, things are going to take place. Every choice that is constructed on the racetrack is a rapid, spur-of-the-moment decision, however I think that no one might argue that wasnt a poor one.”
After the race, Brad Keselowski, reacting to a press reporters concern, said that NASCAR must think about benching a driver when theyre involved in many on-track concerns. Sundays event was the third care Houff has been noted on NASCAR race reports as being responsible for since the Martinsville race on June 10.
