Woody Johnson: US ambassador to UK denies making racist comments – BBC News

The United States ambassador to the UK has denied reports he made “insensitive” remarks about race and gender to embassy personnel.
CNN stated Woody Johnson had been investigated by United States authorities after making “generalisations about black males” and “cringeworthy” remarks about womens looks.
But the diplomat tweeted that the claims were “totally irregular with my longstanding record and values”.
Mr Johnson was called ambassador to the UK by President Donald Trump in 2017.
CNN likewise reported Mr Johnson had sought to promote the presidents company interests in the UK by asking political leaders if the Open Championship golf competition might be played at Mr Trumps Turnberry course.

But Mr Johnson, who is part-owner of NFL group the New York Jets, rejected that claim too.

“I have actually followed the ethical guidelines and requirements of my office at all times,” he wrote on social media.
Asked about the accusation at a White House press conference on Wednesday, President Trump said he had actually never spoken to Mr Johnson about the matter.
