Enhanced Box Score: Cubs 8, Reds 7 – July 27, 2020 – bleachernation.com

He utilized them well, enabling no hits, one walk, and two men got on through mistakes. The Reds couldnt make any kind of good contact off of him for his five innings of work.
When he was out before the 2nd inning was over, the Cubs didnt include much on. I imply, you wouldnt believe 8 runs wouldve made for a tight game, however this offense is simply gon na have to keep including on and on and on up until the bullpen is settled.

Full box score.

He wasnt as extended as he will be in a couple of weeks, so 76 pitches was his limit. He utilized them well, allowing no hits, one walk, and two people got on through errors. The Reds could not make any kind of decent contact off of him for his five innings of work.
Yeah. The bullpen. Dan Winkler was wild. Duane Underwood quit another dong. Ryan Tepera has a nasty slider, but he also allowed two baserunners. James Norwood was unimpressive once again. Craig Kimbrel remained and was an outright disaster in far longer than he need to have. Thank goodness Jeremy Jeffress had the ability to finish things off. More on that tomorrow.

Offensively, the Cubs were all over Wade Miley, who had absolutely nothing. As soon as he was out before the 2nd inning was over, the Cubs didnt add much on. I suggest, you would not believe 8 runs wouldve produced a tight game, however this offense is just gon na need to keep including on and on and on up until the bullpen is settled. If it ever is.
Im not quite sure why Kris Bryant was removed later in the game– didnt hear on the broadcast if they said– but Nico Hoerner got his very first taste of major league left field. Relatedly, Im unsure why Jason Heyward wasnt inserted late for defense (he most likely makes a catch that Souza might not, which caused a couple runs).

DID YOU MISS OUT ON BASEBALL? DO YOU FEEL BETTER NOW?!
Thanks to a great debut, Jon Lester departed the game with a 7-0 lead before the bottom of the 6th inning began, and yet somehow the connecting run got to 3rd base for the Reds by the time the 9th inning got here.
