NCHSAA moves into Phase 2 of reopening plan on Aug. 3, will allow usage of some equipment – HighSchoolOT

Stage 2, which the NCHSAA will enable schools to move to on Aug. 3, will not alter the number of athletes permitted to take part in workouts, however it will enable the use of some shared devices– such as balls. Social distancing must be maintained.

Wearing of protective equipment stays restricted and devices should be sanitized often. Decontaminating equipment is needed between usage by various pods of athletes.

Chapel Hill, N.C.– The N.C. High School Athletic Association Board of Directors has voted on and passed a plan for stage two of its resumption of sports exercises.

Whats various from stage one?

Use of sports-specific equipment, such as balls, might be utilized. All athletic devices, consisting of balls, need to be cleaned often and prior to use by another pod. Formerly, no shared devices was allowed.
If essential to bring a trainee into an athletic training room, a licensed athletic trainer should be suitable and present decontaminating must occur afterwards. Athletes were previously not allowed training rooms unless it was an emergency.

What remains the same?

Adequate cleaning schedules are still needed. Hand sanitizer needs to be readily offered. Trainees motivated to shower and wash clothing right away after returning house.
Workouts stay limited to 90 minutes per session.
Outdoors events are limited to 25 individuals. Gatherings in gyms are limited to 10 people. Gatherings consist of athletes, coaches, managers, trainers, etc.
Pre-workout sign and temperature level checks remain required.
Coaches, personnel, supervisors need to preserve six-feet of social distance and are highly motivated to use a face covering at all times. When not engaged in physical activity, athletes are highly motivated to use a face covering.
No team travel is permitted throughout stage 2.
No sharing of water bottles. Hydration stations can not be utilized by individuals.
Locker rooms are closed.
Weight spaces and mat rooms remain closed. Weights, mats, and other devices may be moved outdoors if spaced 12 feet apart.
Viewers are not allowed.
No sharing of towels, clothes, shoes, or other athletic clothes.

Recently, the NCHSAA announced the official start of the fall sports season would be delayed from Aug. 1, till at least Sep. 1.

The phased method to resuming sports activities has been developed by the NCHSAA Sports Medicine Advisory Committee. When the 3rd stage may be efficient, there is no word on what guidelines will look like for phase 3 or.

HighSchoolOT has learned that the NCHSAA will hold a webinar on Thursday morning with athletic directors from schools across the state. The goal of the webinar is to help address any concerns school-level athletic administrators have about the present strategy for sports resumption.

On June 15, the NCHSAA allowed its member schools to resume limited summer season exercises under stage one guidance, which was limiting and did not allow for the use of any shared equipment. The NCHSAA has run under stage one since that date.

Whether or not groups and schools are enabled to take part in summer season exercises is up to private school districts. Based upon HighSchoolOT data, 42.6% of NCHSAA member schools have resumed workouts while 55.8% stay shut down.
