When she passed out backstage after her battle with Jennifer Maia on Saturday night at UFC Vegas 5, flyweight competitor Joanne Calderwood was taken to a local health center.
Currently, Calderwood is still receiving treatment at the regional health center, but theres no word yet on what exactly triggered her to pass out backstage.
” Heart rate dropped en route there but stabilized now. Shes awake at the healthcare facility with Wood.”
UFC President Dana White first announced the news at the UFC Vegas 5 post-fight interview. According to Calderwoods supervisor, Danny Rubenstein, the Scottish fighter all of a sudden fainted while she was seated, and her head coach and fiancé John Wood caught her before she was able to hit the ground.
Calderwood had actually suffered a submission loss to Maia in her battle after getting captured in an armbar in the opening round.
” Shes all right now,” Rubenstein told MMA Fighting via text message. “She was getting taken a look at in the medical room and fainted while taking a seat. John caught her, they laid her down and hauled her out on a stretcher.
Calderwood was then transferred to a hospital for treatment.
