Staff Members at Blizzard Entertainment are apparently sharing their incomes and pay increases, in an effort to contextualise growing dissatisfaction with the variation in salaries at the business.
According to a report from Bloomberg, Blizzards workers have created a file to which anybody can include their salary level and any current change in pay.
The file exists due to what workers saw as the lacklustre reaction to a an internal study carried out by Blizzard in 2019, which apparently revealed that more than half of the businesss personnel were dissatisfied with their salary.
Blizzards subsequent strategy to ensure fairer pay was put in place last month, but it “resulted in an outcry on the businesss internal Slack messaging boards.”
” Our goal has always been to ensure we compensate our workers fairly and competitively,” said Activision Blizzards Jessica Taylor in a statement.
” We are continuously examining compensation viewpoints to better recognize the talent of our greatest performers and keep us competitive in the market, all with the aim of fulfilling and investing more in top staff members.”
Bloombergs report consists of details from many sources, including the pay file itself, Slack messages, and other internal interactions.
They describe a company in which functions like computer game tester and client service representative receive “minimum wage or close to it.” The report also declares that layoffs in February 2019 left remaining personnel with extra obligations, but they were not compensated with extra pay.
Blizzard Entertainment becomes part of Activision Blizzard, which has been the topic of criticism for its enrichment of CEO Bobby Kotick, amongst other executives. In response, the company mentioned that, in Koticks 30 years as CEO, its share worth has increased from $10 million to more than $50 billion.
However, when we spoke with CtW, the organisation leading the call for change, it recommended that Koticks payment structure is created so he can get 5 annual rewards for meeting specific criteria only as soon as because 5 year duration.
” Thats a little bit like losing a race four years in a row at the Olympics and after that winning the 5th,” stated CtWs Michael Varner. “Instead of being awarded a gold medal for that fifth year, you get five; one for that year and 4 for the races you lost.
” That doesnt make any sense. It doesnt matter if its sustainable or not. Thats just unfair.”
