Ive had the new Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra in hand for 24 hours, and although it broadens my normal smart device grasp, that 6.9-inch display deserves the stretch.
This has already happened with the Note 20 Ultra. The phone expert in me cringes a little bit.
That statement is often real, however I stand by the truth that the Note 20 Ultra feels different from a lot of other smart devices out there. It bucks popular style patterns with squared-off edges underneath a curved display screen, and Samsung hasnt quit on the stylus. In fact, I think that this years S Pen has some standout features that are underrated, which Ill take a look at quickly (spoiler: syncing scribbled-down notes with audio notes is going to be remarkable for reporters and students).

Its very little bigger than my 6.5-inch iPhone 11 Pro Max, which Ill be retiring until Apples iPhone 12 comes out. Samsungs 6.9-inch screen doesnt feel like 0.4 inches of extra. Its just a little bit longer due to Samsungs better screen-to-bezel ratio and the smallest front cam punch-hole weve seen yet (much smaller than the one in the Note 20s screen).

Anything with movement looks buttery smooth. When Im done checking the Note 20 Ultra, its going to be hard to go back to any mobile phone screen with a tense 60Hz.
Okay, no, you cant use the highest resolution (QHD, or technically WQHD+) at the exact same time as 120Hz. However I bet the majority of people do not know that their Samsung phone is 1080p out of package– it looks great regardless. All of those individuals who think this “appears like an iPhone” will not miss out on those extra pixels. And its something Samsung can deal with for the Galaxy S30 in 6 months.

The Note 20 Ultras 50x zoom reach is sufficient, and the biggest deal is the souped-up 5x optical zoom– not digital, not hybrid optical, but optical optical. It also has a somewhat broader aperture than the S20 Ultra telephoto camera: going from f/3.5 to f/3 to permit more light into the cam sensing unit. Theres more of a crop on this electronic camera (20 degrees instead of the S20 Ultras 24 degrees), but I dont see concerns.
I did have to refocus the 10MP selfie video camera while in front of the Empire State Building, as I was in the dark in the foreground, while the brilliantly lit background of New Yorks 34th Street dominated. The background was blown out in the live sneak peek, I discovered that Samsungs post-processing managed things relatively well enough in the end.
Double tapping the power button to quickly release the electronic camera app. I dont even need to look on the lock screen to find some bothersome icon that needs a long press.
Making an open-hand gesture to trigger selfies so I can hold my arm out and frame up the shot– without needing to reset and pull back for every single shot.
Seeing a timer ring form around the 10MP selfie electronic camera punch hole instead of terribly guessing where the electronic camera is inside the display. Invaluable for group selfies.
Swiping anywhere on the viewfinder part of the screen to turn between the front and rear video cameras– to me, it imitates a big button, replacing that tiny electronic camera icon button thats in a random corner of nearly every other phone.

I still require to do a deeper analysis, but photos of New York City looks sensational. The 12MP ultrawide lens catches so much more of city landscapes, telling an entirely different story versus the 108MP primary and 12MP telephoto lenses.
