The San Diego Padres obtained first baseman Yonder Alonso in a trade with the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday.
The Padres will send out cash to the Braves to finish the offer.
Alonso, the brother-in-law of Padres 3rd baseman Manny Machado, returns to San Diego, where he played from 2012 to 2015. Its also the city where Machado and Alonsos sibling make their offseason house.
“Im definitely excited to have my brother-in-law lastly on the same group,” Machado said on Tuesday after the Padres beat the Dodgers 6-2.
Alonso was on the Braves limited list after not reporting to their alternate training site. He will report to the Padres alternate website at the University of San Diego.
