Spotify has not discussed the outage, but it appears to be connected to the company forgetting to renew its TLS certificate. A Cloudflare engineer noticed that a crucial Spotify certificate ended, and the service returned minutes after this certificate had actually been renewed again.

Spotify experienced a widespread failure impacting song playback today. The problems initially began around 8AM ET and prevented a big number of Spotify users from playing songs properly for more than an hour.
Its uncommon for Spotify to experience outages. The music streaming service last knowledgeable concerns throughout a broader Facebook iOS SDK problem in July that indicated the app crashed upon start-up.
