That win felt actually, really amazing. Since it gave the Cubs a series win, and not just.
Full box score.
On The Other Hand, Adbert Alzolay provided the Cubs five outstanding innings of work. He was clearly a little amped in the beginning, so he was missing his areas (terribly) with his fastball. But the things is still outstanding, and when he settled, it took control of. Good fastball at 94/95, exceptional wipeout curveball, and really functional changeup. Hes got the tools, man. More on him later.
In the meantime, I actually desire to commemorate this …
Im embarrassed to confess how much my heart was POUNDING in that 7th inning. It is a routine season game, its still early in the year, and whatever. There was something about the feeling of seeing Craig Kimbrel get another genuine save possibility and knowing, most likely not hyperbolically, that it could make or break the rest of his season. So when he was out there tossing 97/98/99, baffling the Cardinals with his curveball, and ultimately striking out 3 to close things out … I was freaking losing it. That was so awesome.
And that wasnt all. The Cubs clearly won the game thanks to David Bote * FINALLY * being the person to come through with the bases packed (naturally it was Bote), driving in 2 with a single in the top of the 7th.
