SAN DIEGO– Eric Hosmer hit a historical shot Thursday night that made the San Diego Padres the first string in the majors to release grand slams in 4 straight video games.
The Padres beat the Texas Rangers 8-7 in the 10th inning to sweep a four-game, home-and-home series with a grand slam in each game.
Hosmers go-ahead shot against Kyle Gibson with one out in the fifth inning bounced off the top of the right-field wall and into the seats for a 5-2 lead. Austin Hedges, Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado were aboard for Hosmers 3rd career slam and 5th homer this season.
Earlier this week, Tatis, Machado and Wil Myers hit grand slams versus the Rangers.
Hosmer stated the slam streak feels “unbelievable.”.
” We were sort of discussing it prior to the game, simply how remarkable three was in 3 video games,” he said. “The scenario showed up and its not actually something I was believing about throughout the game, however as soon as I returned to the dugout I was considering it. Even sweeter is we came away with the win.”.
The Padres grand slam barrage began with Tatis drive Monday at Texas, when the 21-year-old star shortstop struck an opposite-field shot on a 3-0 pitch with the Padres leading by 7 runs in a game they won 14-4. That outraged the Rangers, and even Padres manager Jayce Tingler at first wasnt too happy since Tatis missed out on a take indication before homering. The next day, Tingler said he mored than happy with the result.
Myers struck a slam in a 6-4 win Tuesday at Texas, and Machado linked Wednesday in a 6-3 win.
The Padres slams in three straight games were one of the most in the big leagues considering that 2006 and the most in the NL since the Cleveland Spiders hit a grand slam in 3 in a row versus the Boston Beaneaters in 1895.
