If youre a Tottenham Hotspur advocate wanting to view the club play in the preseason, theres excellent news and bad news.
The good news is that Tottenhams preseason match schedule has actually been completed, with the club revealing a brand-new friendly versus just recently relegated Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday, September 5. The match versus Watford joins 3 other previously revealed friendlies all held at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, that makes the schedule as follows:
vs. Ipswich Town, this Saturday, 10 am ET/3 pm BST
vs. Reading, Fri. August 28, 10 am ET/3 pm BST
vs. Birmingham City, Sat. August 29, 10 am ET/3 pm BST
at Watford, Sat. September 5, 10 am ET/3 pm BST
The club also announced the other day that preseason matches will all be streamed on the clubs brand-new N17 Live streaming platform. Streaming gain access to will be complimentary for season ticket holders and One Hotspur members, and other supporters will be able to acquire an all-match streaming pass for ₤ 20, or ₤ 10 for specific matches.
That sounds fantastic, and its wonderful that Spurs are finally implementing a streaming service, something which has been very long overdue. Nevertheless, now comes the bad news. Buried in the great print is this:
Its a paid platform, as you most likely recall from seeing Champions League matches on B/R the previous number of years. However, you can get a months gain access to for $9.99 and cancel after the last pre-season game ends. $10 is still more affordable than the ₤ 20 that Tottenham is charging non-season ticket holders to stream the matches, and even the ₤ 10 that theyre charging for one single a la carte match.
* Spurs TV streaming service available in Australia, Canada, Cyprus, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Iceland, Italy, Republic of Ireland, Japan, Malta, New Zealand, Portugal, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland and United Kingdom. Info on broadcasters revealing the matches in other territories will be validated in due course.
Guess which popular country with a lot of Tottenham Hotspur fans isnt consisted of in that list? Likewise the United States.
Im unsure how I missed this, but last fall Tottenham entered into an agreement with Turner Sports, B/Rs parent business, to stream Spurs TV material on the B/R Live platform. This apparently extends to preseason matches streamed on N17 Live, and is why USA was specifically left out from the list of nations that can access NC17 Live material.
UPDATE: Keen-eyed Carty-Free reader Clark (clark p on the site) emailed me a bit back to let me know he found that, really, all of Tottenhams preseason matches will be streamed in the United States on Bleacher Report Live. This consists of tomorrows friendly match against Ipswich Town. Thanks, Clark!
So hooray for American resourcefulness! And lets go Tottenham Hotspur!
