Twins put Byron Buxton, Mitch Garver on injured list – Minneapolis Star Tribune

The great news, Twins President of Baseball Operations Derek Falvey said, is that the swelling in Buxtons left shoulder does not include his labrum, which was surgically repaired last year.

The bad news is that the Gold Glove center fielder is again sidelined, this time relegated to the 10-day injury list. The 26-year-old started the season with a left foot sprain that kept him out of opening weekend; that was his 13th injury in the previous 7 seasons, not consisting of migraine issues.

” Its truly simply some shoulder type of muscle swelling that is resulting in some pain,” Falvey said. “And with his history, we just desire to make sure we get this. We thought the very best thing to do would be to shut him down for an amount of time and well see how it progresses over the next couple of days.

Byron Buxton moved house with the winning run Tuesday night and suffered a shoulder injury.

” When you have the surgery that he had, youre going to go through some ups and downs with some discomfort in that general location. That is not unusual. … This is not something we believe will be a long-standing issue for him.”

LaMonte Wade Jr. was remembered from the St. Paul practice site to change Buxton prior to Thursday nights finale of a three-game series against the Brewers at Target Field.

Garver also sidelined

” Its an extremely mild stress in the intercostal area, in the chest,” Falvey said. “He feels OK, however I believe he wouldve been down for a minimum of a few days while we type of worked it through.”

” Had we been at a more traditional setting I would completely anticipated [Jeffers] to be playing in Double A, Triple A this year,” Falvey stated, “so we felt he was close. Willians is still certainly in our mix and will be a part of the discussion and can play numerous positions … however we seemed like Ryan was the best fit for the more routine role [Thursday]

” What we informed Ryan is, when a young catcher turns up, your main goal and your 3rd and second goal is to help deal with the pitchers and get those through a video game and ensure youre focused on the defense. Whatever happens offensively is sort of gravy after that.”

Ryan Jeffers was phoned from the St. Paul site and made his major league launching versus the Brewers.

Willians Astudillo was passed over for promotion, but Falvey said Astudillo would be on the taxi squad for the 10-game journey to Kansas City, Cleveland and Detroit. Astudillos summer season was postponed after he evaluated favorable for COVID-19 when reporting in July.

Catcher Mitch Garver left Wednesdays loss to the Brewers, wincing after swinging at an outside pitch in a sixth-inning strikeout. He went on the 10-day IL because of a low grade right intercostal strain.

Jeffers was a second-round option in 2018 and dipped into Class A Fort Myers and Class AA Pensacola last season.

” Its really simply some shoulder kind of muscle swelling that is leading to some soreness,” Falvey stated. We thought the best thing to do would be to shut him down for a duration of time and well see how it advances over the next few days.

– Lewis Thorpe, after quiting four runs in 4 relief innings in a 9-3 loss to the Brewers on Wednesday, was sent out to St. Paul and replaced by Zack Littell.

Twins special assistant LaTroy Hawkins has been dealing with the groups young pitchers, especially Jorge Alcala, who got his first major league success Tuesday.

” Hes one of those men, his stuff exists,” Hawkins said of the 25-year-old righthander, who concerned the Twins in the Ryan Pressly trade with Houston 2 years ago. “I can be found in with the mental part of the game. I informed him the other day, theres not too many things youre going to go through in the game of baseball, from now till the last day you pitch, that I have not gone through.
