Day 7 of Broncos camp is now in the books and they formally end their 6 straight practice streak. They have Saturday off so today was a cushioned day for them and it was a fun one. The defense dominated for most of practice, but the offense ended on a strong note to help restore their day. We also have updates on the players replacing the injured, which next man up stepped up today, injury updates, news and notes and more.
Defense dominates however offense finishes strong
The offense has revealed flashes and revealed prospective, however they have yet to put it together completely in a practice. They are practicing versus a solid defense day in and day out while they are a young and growing offense, so it should take sometime.
The offense did end on a high note. Throughout the final seconds of a group drill, wide receiver Tim Patrick captured a pass in completion zone where he tip toed to protect the catch.
” Oh, my ankle is great. Just a fast roll, however everything was fine strolling off. They simply sort of pulled me and no factor worsen it any longer. Everything is fine. We got tangled up a bit, however whatever is cool.”
” He modified his other ankle, not the one that he had work on in the offseason. I think hes okay, but again, its early.”
As for brand-new injuries, the only really new one was to Elijah Wilkinson who rolled his ankle, however it was simply a minor injury according to Vic Fangio.
The Broncos hit the injury bug a bit on Thursday, and it sidelined gamers like Von Miller, Todd Davis, Melvin Gordon, and K.J. Hamler for potentially an extended period of time. We do know Hamler was out for at least 2 weeks, potentially as much as a month but they were waiting on the outcomes of the others.
” Yeah, I was pleased with the way that they completed practice undoubtedly in the short-yardage and objective line, but we have to make sure we can move it well enough to get down to the goal line and move it well enough to get short yardage at times. It wasnt our sharpest practice offensively up until the end, however like I stated, I see flashes.
Head Coach Vic Fangio talked about the offenses end of practice and if they are beginning to reveal indications of maturity.
Even without Von Miller or Todd Davis, the Broncos defense was still making life hell for the Broncos offense. Casey is a stud, Malik Reed consumed Elijah Wilkinsons lunch and the secondary did their thing. They controlled the first group offense and were firing on all cylinders.
Thankfully for the Broncos, the Von Miller and Melvin Gordon injuries are not major and were likely held out for preventive reasons. So thats a plus and we probably will see these two back on Sunday after a day of rest tomorrow.
The genuine concern here was with within linebacker Todd Davis. He was hauled off the field and it was revealed he had a potentially severe calf injury. Thankfully, it was formerly announced that Davis would be out 2 to three weeks, however Head Coach Vic Fangio said he will miss out on a week at least then they will go from there.
Wilkinson himself says his ankle is just fine which he was pulled for pre-cautionary reasons.
So the good news is the Broncos came out these dayss cushioned practice relatively healthy.

The defense has actually been borderline dominant today.– Aric DiLalla (@AricDiLalla) August 21, 2020
According to reports, the Broncos started sluggish and the 6 days of practice seemed reaching them. Once again controling out there, this clearly indicated the Broncos defense was.
Injury Updates
” I believe Todd will miss out on a minimum of a week. Then after that well see how it goes. Its not the exact same calf he had last year nor is it as serious as the one he had last year. Vons elbow is day-to-day. I dont think hell miss much time. Gordon, same, daily– I dont think hell miss much time.”

Just that element of it– the principles of the game and understanding the shell of the defense, where theyre turning, if theres going to be a fire zone coming, when theyre slanting and things like that. Keys to assist you out to make the video game much better, easier for you or slow it down a bit. When you begin seeing those examples, you know the basis of the game and were running this play and you know who you have. When youre breaking the huddle and youre pertaining to the line, you type of knowing what you got currently. Its not you coming to the line like, Whats going on? You already know whats occurring, you know what method youre using, you understand how youre going to obstruct a person and you understand who youre breaking. So, youre like, Alright, Im going to do this, this and this to be able to execute that block.”.
