Well, if Bungie keeps dumping things into the Destiny Content Vault, the more of these articles telling you to do things before it’s too late I have to write.
Bungie laid out the full scope of the Destiny Content Vault in a TWAB this week, confirming or adding several things to it. We have who won the Gambit war, and the vaulting of pretty much everything in Black Armory and Season of the Drifter, along with Red War and a few other Earth-based things going away, despite that not being a sunset planet.
So, where to start? Here are five new things you should definitely now do since we are now 100% clear on what’s going away in a few months with Beyond Light.
1. More Titles
Before this new update, it was possible that at least a few titles would get papered over to still exists, with the vault gaps being filled. But now? It’s pretty clear to me that Blacksmith and Reckoner in particular are going away completely. Shadow was already dead because it relies on Menagerie and Crown of Sorrow. Blacksmith maybe could have ditched the Scourge stuff, but now that Forges are also going away, that’s essentially every single thing tied to the title.
Reckoner too now will be gone completely, given that Gambit Prime armor and Reckoning will no longer exist in Beyond Light. The one question mark title is Wayfarer, which requires at least some things from Vaulted Zones, but it’s possible those requirements could be removed. But yeah, if you need something to do in the next three months, these titles are likely all going to be retired for good, and it will be a badge of honor (or insanity, in Reckoner’s case) if you have them.
2. Exotic Catalysts
This is something that we didn’t know until this most recent update, that while quest exotics (and raid exotics) will exist in some sort of new Memorial system in Beyond Light, many exotic catalysts tied to vaulted destinations are being removed entirely, possibly until season 13 or 14, and we don’t know in what form they’ll return. Here’s the full list:
- Bad Juju
- The Huckleberry
- Izanagi’s Burden
- Legend of Acrius
- Polaris Lance
- Skyburner’s Oath
- Sleeper Simulant*
- Telesto*
- Outbreak Perfected*
- Whisper of the Worm*
- Worldline Zero*
The asterisks mean you not only have to get the catalyst, but also complete it before vaulting takes effect, since completion is tied to leaving destinations.
In terms of “importance,” I’d rank some of these above others. Huckleberry has one of the most gamechanging catalysts in the game, and its one of the easier ones to get here as all you have to do is run Mercury heroic adventures for a chance for it to drop. Izanagi’s is key and requires only a single heroic Menagerie run. Sleeper and Telesto, buried in the Prestige raid lairs, may be annoying to get, but both are extremely good (I was really hoping these would be more readily available now). Outbreak in particular is necessary, running heroic Zero Hour, if you want the most DPS for 6x Outbreak strats, or just orbs on kill for the weapon. I consider Whisper’s Box Breathing less important.
3. Forge Things
Now that we know Forges are leaving there are quite a few different things to “get done” here.
God roll forge weapons: Yes, they are being sunset, and yet you can still rip up Crucible with a Feeding Frenzy rampage Blast Furnace, and who doesn’t want a Kill Clip Rampage Kindled Orchid? The weapons are sunset, not dead.
Emblems/Niobe: A lot of cool Forge emblems out there for achieving certain things, and perhaps the best of all is completing Niobe Labs, a “pointless” bit of content perhaps, but a complicated, interesting puzzle that will no doubt be deleted with all the other forges, and you get a commemorative emblem and Ghost for your trouble. I don’t regret doing it, despite the frustration of getting it done.
Platinum Starling: This is the one I recently finished, 100 forged weapons for a unique exotic ship that’s genuinely one of the coolest in the game. I had been putting this off for literally years, but once I realized the forges were going away, I sat down and finished my final ten.
4. Bad Juju Quest
We all thought it was going to happen, but now it’s officially confirmed that yes, Tribute Hall is indeed going away with all its test holograms and that means, the Bad Juju quest is leaving too. It’s a very good quest, one that I was a bit sad to only run once ever, so I would definitely recommend doing it now that we for sure know Tribute Hall is dying. This is also true for getting the catalyst, as it really does help the gun and again, now we have no idea whether it will show up again in 3-6 months, so better just to get it now while you can.
5. Zero Hour
People thought it would survive because it’s not tied to any sunsetting destinations, but Bungie is removing it anyway. While you will be able to get Outbreak in the Memorial system, Zero Hour is just such a good piece of content in general, it’s worth running just to experience it.
The same goes for its heroic mode, which has some of the most difficult jumping puzzles in the game, and it’s an experience to see it through until the end. Heroic is also how you get the catalyst I mentioned, which requires a few different runs, and takes the gun to the next level. It’s a shame this is leaving, and I’m not sure I buy the rationale (“the old Tower is part of the Red War campaign” yeah okay).
Those are my five for now. Bonus: Obviously finish the Red War campaign if you haven’t, as it’s quite good, and never coming back, I would guess.
