Dungeons & & Dragons is getting a new book of guidelines, subclasses, and mechanics this fall, Wizards of the Coast announced on Monday. The book, titled Tashas Cauldron of Whatever, follows in the custom of 2017s Xanathars Guide to Everything, including fresh gameplay alternatives to the existing setting rather than a new setting.
Also like Xanathars Guide, Tashas Cauldron provides its material with commentary, observations, and snark of a narrator character. This time, instead of a floating crime manager with several eyestalks, its the developer of Tashas Hideous Laughter who works as the guide.

For those behind the screen, Tashas Cauldron will have a section for Dungeon Masters with wonderful environments and setting-agnostic puzzles. Fans will also see the return of the group clients concept– non-player characters who money and assist adventurers– from Eberron: Rising from the Last War, but de-Eberron-ed for any setting.
Tashas Cauldron wont have any brand-new classes, but will rather provide a collection of new subclasses for each published class in 5th edition. These subclasses are all drawn from the extensively play-tested Unearthed Arcana column on the D&D site. There will be new spells as well– including at least one created by Tasha herself– and magic items to drop into your game.

The most important and appealing announcement about Tashas Cauldron is a brand-new and comprehensive set of guidelines for character development. Back in June, Wizards of the Coast announced that it was working on resolving the concept of race in D&D. Tashas Cauldron provides an alternate set of character development guidelines that will do simply that. With these guidelines, your characters race will no longer be tied to inherent stat increases and abilities. While the character production rules are still available in 2014s Players Handbook for anybody who wishes to use them, Tashas will decouple race and origin from their 5th edition mechanics. Gamers will have a lot more freedom over what their characters can do and who they are.
Tashas Cauldron of Everything will be launched on Nov. 17, and will feature cover art by Magali Villeneuve. An alternate (and supposedly Easter egg-filled) cover will be readily available just in shops with art by Wylie Beckert.
The most intriguing and crucial statement about Tashas Cauldron is a new and comprehensive set of rules for character production.
