Sony has actually opened pre-orders for PlayStation 5, however there are limitations.
The most prominent is that, to begin with, pre-orders will be offered on an invite-only basis.
The platform holder has stated it will be sending invites to a limited number of PSN users who register through the site “based on previous interests and PlayStation activities.”
These users will have a minimal time in which to put their pre-order, and there will be limitations on what they can acquire.
Consumers will only be able to pre-order one PS5 console, either a disc-based or digital design. They can pre-order accessories– controllers, charging stations, headsets and so on– but just as much as 2 of each item.
Pre-orders will be on a first come, initially serve basis and there is minimal quantity, so not everybody who gets an invite is guaranteed a console.
Finally, this is presently a US-only initiative. Any orders containing a non-US based address will be cancelled.
There is still no info on how much the PS5 will cost, or when it will be released.
Sonys Eric Lempel recently guaranteed us that “we will release this year– that will occur.”
GamesIndustry.biz has reached out to PlayStation to find out more on the limitations.
