Fitzpatricks absence left Tagovailoa and Josh Rosen to run Miamis offense throughout the skirmish. Tagovailoa finished 13-of-23 passes for 119 yards without any goals and one interception. ” Hes going to take as much time as he needs,” Flores stated. “Me and as an organization, were going to give him this time to grieve. Since thats the competitive nature in him, my thought on this is hes going to try to get back as rapidly as he can. Like a lot of us, football is our sanctuary, and its our place to escape the difficult times, the discomfort, the suffering in our lives.”
Tagovailoa joined the Dolphins as the fifth gamer selected in the 2020 NFL Draft. Miami traded for Rosen in 2015 after he began 13 video games as a novice for the Arizona Cardinals in 2018.
” The next man has to step up,” Flores stated of Fitzpatricks absence on bereavement leave. “And I know what the next question is: Hey, is it this person or this guy? And I would say thats yet to be identified.”
Without any preseason video games this year, the Dolphins utilized Saturdays skirmish to prepare for their season-opening contest on Sept. 13 against the New England Patriots.
” Without preseason video games, thats our very first genuine appearance in an arena, sideline operations, headsets, officials, so theres a lot to clean up,” Flores said. “I would state just from a coaching perspective, we got a little bit of that cleaned up from very first half to second half. I believe overall anytime you get a live look or as close to the video game as possible, its excellent.”
Throughout his Saturday interview, Flores informed reporters, “Theres no quarterback controversy,” but he didnt know when the veteran QB would return. Fitzpatrick “tried to go out there today … but some things are more crucial than football, so he delegated be with his household,” Flores said.
