That is to state, Ill preach caution against doing the thing Im about to do, but then Im going to do it anyhow since its enjoyable. And sports are supposed to be fun, at least when they supply you the chance.
So …
THE CUBS ARE HOT AGAIN BABY!!! THEYVE WON 4 OF THEIR LAST 5!!! AND EVEN THAT ONE LOSS WAS A BLOWN SAVE IN THE 9TH!!! THATS PRACTICALLY A 5-GAME WINNING STREAK!!!
You can do this in any season, but similar to with any other stat, when the overall pool of available data is going to be small, we tend to look at “streaks” as more meaningful than they are. If there are just 60 games in the season, then if you “fume” for like a week, its unexpectedly, “oh wow, thats a long stretch!”
Er herm.
Two of those 4 wins came as part of a series split with the Reds, and one of the two wins against the Pirates was an absolute squeaker. The Cubs have actually had some excellent results in this extremely small window of time. I do not believe it says anything brand-new or various about the group.
Rather, I think what I d focus more on is the return of particular people (Kris Bryant the greatest), the additions to the bench and bullpen from the trade market, and the injuries in the rotation (Tyler Chatwood and Jose Quintana). Those are the things that are likely to affect the weeks ahead, rather than an excellent stretch of games with some bats setting up big numbers.
Still, winning 4 of five does decrease in the books, and with the rest of the NL Central kinda meandering along, the Cubs stay in an excellent area now that were into September:
When they got beat up by the White Sox, that 4.0-game lead for the Cubs is their largest since August 21. Kinda states a lot that the Cubs have increased their divisional lead ever since, eh? Once again, the Cubs are in fact 6-4 since taking the ending in that White Sox series. Perhaps they are hot after all!
Ah, whatever. Take pleasure in the highlights from last nights comfy win:
