NFL teams can put limitless players on Injured Reserve and trigger them after as couple of as three weeks this year. But they still have to be on the preliminary 53-man lineup.
Elijah Holyfield had a solid camp and Im sure the Eagles will try to keep him around on the practice squad, but this offseason was everything about generating speed, and Killins has it. His unexpected getting ability makes him even more valuable.
Injuries are definitely a factor here. I would anticipate Alshon Jeffery to go onto regular-season PUP, which means he misses the first 6 weeks. With Jalen Reagor currently allocated for IR after cuts you cant manage to keep both on the 53. Deontay Burnett is worthy of an area on the 53, but he d most likely be easier to survive waivers onto the practice squad than Watkins
S [5]: Rodney McLeod, Jalen Mills, Will Parks, KVon Wallace, Rudy Ford.
WR [6]: DeSean Jackson, Greg Ward, J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, John Hightower, Quez Watkins, Jalen Reagor.
Another spot where the Eagles will need to go thin due to the fact that of injuries. Theyre inexperienced and young but a minimum of theyre healthy. And presuming Alex Singleton clears waivers, hes a telephone call away on the practice squad if you need him.
OL [9]: Isaac Seumalo, Jason Peters, Lane Johnson, Jason Kelce, Matt Pryor, Jordan Mailata, Jack Driscoll, Nate Herbig, Sua Opeta.
Professionals [3]: Jake Elliott, Cameron Johnston, Rick Lovato.
QB [3]: Carson Wentz, Nate Sudfeld, Jalen Hurts.
With Josh Perkins out, Togiai, the undrafted novice from Oregon looks like a keeper.
POUND [5]: Nate Gerry, T.J. Edwards, Duke Riley, Davion Taylor, Shaun Bradley.
CB [5]: Avonte Maddox, Darius Slay, Rasul Douglas, Cre von LeBlanc, Nikell Robey-Coleman.
With Hargrave out forever with an upper body and Ridgeway still out with a lower body, the Eagles cant manage to keep 5, so Williams, an undrafted novice out of Michigan State, gets a shot.
Its tough enough forecasting a 53-man roster. This year its even harder thinking about all the Eagles injuries.
So this is a genuine juggling act, attempting to find out where to go light, where to go heavy.
TE [3]: Zach Ertz, Dallas Goedert, Noah Togiai.
I still expect the Eagles to bring in a veteran off the waiver wire. For the preliminary 53 Im keeping Opeta over Prince Tega Wanogho.
Heres my finest guess at the Eagles preliminary 53-man roster. Which will most likely change a good deal before opening day.
With Parks out forever, Ford gets approval over undrafted Grayland Arnold for the fifth spot..
I still expect the Eagles to bring in a veteran off the waiver wire. We do not understand how long Derek Barnett is out and Im not sure Howie Roseman has the high-end of keeping 6 with the injuries everywhere else. This might be awful, considering the Eagles last year prepared Miller in the fourth round and traded a 4 for Avery. Another area where the Eagles will have to go thin due to the fact that of injuries. I truly wanted to keep Craig James on here because of his special groups capability, but with all the injuries in other places I just couldnt keep 6 corners.
Lured to have the Eagles re-acquire Clayton Thorston right before the roster due date but chose against it. The only question here is whos No. 2 and despite what Doug Pederson has said Im still not persuaded it wont be Jalen Hurts.
DT [5]: Fletcher Cox, Malik Jackson, Javon Hargrave, Hassan Ridgeway, Raequan Williams.
RB [4]: Miles Sanders, Boston Scott, Corey Clement, Adrian Killins.
The exact same group for a 3rd straight year. Which is a good idea. Not having to worry ab out the kicker, punter or holder is an under-rated high-end for any group.
.
DE [5]: Brandon Graham, Derek Barnett, Vinny Curry, Josh Sweat, Casey Toohill.
Heres Dave Zangaros attempt..
I really wanted to keep Craig James on here due to the fact that of his special groups capability, however with all the injuries somewhere else I simply could not keep 6 corners. What about Sidney Jones? Yeah, he was a 2nd-round choice, however if were basing this on merit, he wont be here.
This may be the most difficult area to forecast. We do not know for how long Derek Barnett is out and Im not exactly sure Howie Roseman has the luxury of keeping 6 with the injuries all over else. Graham, Barnett, Curry and Sweat are locks, which leaves Joe Ostman, hurt Genard Avery, Casey Toohill and Shareef Miller for one or maybe 2 spots. This might be unsightly, considering the Eagles in 2015 drafted Miller in the 4th round and traded a 4 for Avery. They may both be gone..
