A few months earlier, Psyonix surprised everybody when it announced its popular “soccar” game, Rocket League, would be going free-to-play later this year.
When it is lastly provided to everybody, as you might have thought, it will no longer need users to be signed up to Nintendo Switch Online to sign up with matches on the internet. This covers both the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 versions of the game. Heres the full confirmation from the Rocket League site:

This is the exact same design as games like Fortnite, where you can play online multiplayer without a subscription.
According to the exact same page, the next upgrade for the video game – including a streamlined season, brand-new competitive ranks, and a new gamer experience (tutorial) – will be presenting in a few weeks time around mid-September, and the launch of free-to-play will follow shortly after this.
PlayStation Plus on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch Online will no longer be required for online play on those platforms.
