This July, Brian Baumgartner launched a weekly podcast on Spotify called An Oral History of The Office. On each episode, Baumgartner, who played Kevin Malone in the hit U.S. series, has featured members of the cast and crew to discuss favorite memories, special behind-the-scenes moments and more.
But, like all good things, the 12-episode podcast will come to a close on Tuesday (Sept. 15) — but not without a very special guest. The show’s finale will feature Office super fan Billie Eilish.
Eilish previously went head-to-head with the show’s Rainn Wilson (who played Dwight Schrute) for an episode of Billboard‘s Quizzed and proved she knows the show inside and out.
Here, Eilish chats with Baumgartner and Steve Carell (who played Michael Scott) for a very special ending, titled “Beauty in Ordinary Things… – The Legacy of The Office (2013-Present).” During the episode, Eilish speculates on the show’s lasting legacy and ability to draw in new generations of fans, while Baumgartner treks to Scranton to interview fan’s about how the show impacted the city. Other cast members — including Jenna Fischer (Pam Beesly) and John Krasinski (Jim Halpert) — drop in virtually as well.
“This is crazy!” says Eilish, who FaceTimed with the pair just a few days after she swept this year’s Grammys. “I don’t need all of them, you can have one,” she joked. Eilish’s mom, Maggie, also popped in to confirm that Eilish watches the show “day and night.”
Eilish, 18, reveals her favorite character to be Michael, and admits she’s watched the entire series 14 times — mostly on her iPhone. “Honestly, because I’ve been getting older, every time I watch it I understand something new because I started at [age] 12. Most of the things that I know are because of The Office. I swear to god.”
She concludes: “It takes me away from the reality of my life. It’s a safe space.”
