The Giants couldnt benefit from a muffed Pittsburgh punt that provided the ball at the Steelers 3-yard line, settling for a field objective.
Jones stated the interception was “clearly a play I d like to have back.”
The Giants offensive line was a catastrophe when it came to run-blocking. Barkley had eight runs that went for unfavorable yardage.
On the 19th play of an excellent 87-yard, 8:50 drive, Jones was rolling to his. Under pressure from Bud Dupree Jones had two appropriate choices.
Jones committed two turnovers, both interceptions. The very first looked merely like an excellent play by T.J. Watt. The second was unforgivable, and probably ended the Giants hopes of an upset.
Yet, far too much about the Giants 26-16 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers recognized.
Maybe worst of all, the Giants sounded like they have frequently in the last few years. Gamers offered through Zoom calls kept responding to questions by saying they required to see the movie. That they needed to return to work.
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.– New head coach. New defensive and offensive coordinators. A lineup choc filled with new gamers. Yet, these looked like the usual New York Giants.
The Giants could not convert on 3rd down (1 of 6) or stop Pittsburgh often enough on 3rd down (5 of 9).
A good night for Darius Slayton with 102 getting lawns and 2 touchdowns. Some excellent moments from the defense.
We spent an entire offseason talking not just about Jones tendency to fumble, but his decision-making under pressure. This was not a good choice.
Here is another illustration where you can plainly see that Jones had no opportunity of finishing this pass no matter where he tossed it.
” Thats something we cant have happen,” coach Joe Judge said.

Heres Lorenzo Carter:
Wet Willies to …
Darius Slayton– Six catches on 6 targets, 10-2 yards, 2 goals. Yeah, this kid is respectable.
They need to. There is, obviously, a great deal of work to be done.
Williams had a sack, a tackle for loss, two quarterback hits, a pass defensed and 5 deals with. Lorenzo Carter was active early on and Dexter Lawrence had a sack, however it was Williams who played like the real defensive line distinction maker.
Wet Willies to …
Evan Engram– The Giants needed a big night from their tight end. Engram caught two passes for simply 9 yards in 7 targets. Engram also did not appear to get off the line of skirmish well on a third-and-goal incompletion from Jones.
Run-blocking– The Giants gained 29 yards on 20 brings, and 22 of those came on 4 scrambles by Jones. Barkley had that ludicrous stat line. Dion Lewis had one carry for 1 yard. Per Pro Football Focus, Giants running backs balanced being struck 1.3 yards behind the line of scrimmage. Barkley lost yardage on eight of his 15 carries.
Jones 2 interceptions led to 9 Pittsburgh points, and the 2nd one took basically ended any hope the Giants had of winning the game.
Press box PA system– You dont care about this, however it made an unusual, kind of uneasy night even worse. I do not know what was happening with the PA system, however Im not sure we heard a total sentence all night without the system eliminating. Ridiculous. And irritating.
Cameron Fleming– The veteran tackle vs. T.J. Watt was never going to be a helpful match for the Giants. Watt, though, had his method with Fleming as he had an interception, a deal with for loss, 2 passes defensed and two quarterback hits. , if Fleming keeps playing like that Giants fans might begin to want Nate Solder didnt opt out of the 2020 season.
Jabrill Peppers punt returns– Peppers averaged 13 backyards on three punt returns, consisting of a 20-yarder that he nearly broke for a much bigger return.
In case you arent familiar, a Kwillie is a combination Kudo and Wet Willie. These guys did things that wound up both helping and hurting the Giants.
” I simply see the development that we made and trust the training staff. We put in the work. All the offseason, all the camp, weve been putting in work. To come out there and simply come up short, it injures, it certainly hurts, but we see the type of guys we have. Weve got some ruffians in this locker room, a group of leaders. Were all set to return therein, enjoy the film tomorrow and return to work.”
I know were going to go out there, were going to scratch and claw. Thats absolutely nothing new, its nothing I didnt see all of camp, and were going to keep doing it and simply attempt to keep getting much better.
Blake Martinez– Its harmful to judge a linebacker by number of takes on. Yes he made a lot of tackle. Martinez had 12 takes on, might at or near the line of skirmish.
The Steelers defense is excellent. That great? Blame brand-new starting center Nick Gates. Blame right deal with Cameron Fleming. Blame the play-calling. Blame the pandemic. Blame whoever or whatever you want. The Giants best gamer never ever had a possibility.
Daniel Jones– Jones did lots of good ideas. He finished 26 of 41 passes for 279 lawns. He tossed a pair of goal passes, including a 41-yarder to Darius Slayton. He made some plays with his legs. He threw that awful interception. On a third-and-goal from the 3-yard line Jones missed what should have been a simple flip to Evan Engram for a goal.
.
These looked like the exact same old New York Giants.
Kudos to …
Kwillies to …
