49ers placing CB Richard Sherman (calf) on IR – NFL.com

Coming off a second-team All-Pro season in 2019, Shermans injury is a big blow to a 49ers defense that relies on the corner to eliminate one side of the field. The 32-year-old gave up just one catch on 2 targets for nine yards in Sundays loss, per Pro Football Focus.

NFL Networks Mike Garafolo reported Wednesday that star corner Richard Sherman is being put on injured reserve, per sources informed of the situation. Sherman is handling a calf strain, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.

The injury news comes apparently out of left field after Sherman played 74 of 78 snaps in Sundays loss to Arizona, per Next Gen Stats. While the Niners have been dealing with a variety of injuries, especially on offense, Sherman wasnt one pointed out after the video game by coach Kyle Shanahan or subsequent pressers.

Putting Sherm on IR will sideline the corner for a minimum of 3 weeks.

The San Francisco 49ers continue to handle the injury bug.

The Pro Bowl corner will miss video games versus the Jets, Giants and Eagles before hes qualified to return. The Niners hope they can weather the storm without their leading CB for those 3 tilts as they try to remain in striking range in the most challenging division in the NFL.
