” I believe every kickers different,” Butker explained. “I definitely felt more confident– the 53-yarder, I didnt like the way it kind of curved left. I made a change with Tommy as far as our intending point, and we aimed further ideal for the 58-yarder, however a 58-yarder a longer kick. I swung a little more difficult and that one kind of hugged the left upright. And after that for that last kick, I had the same intending point, and I think I just decreased my leg swinging a bit and hit a much better turning ball and a better ball and I believed it went down basically the middle.”
” There wasnt a lot of unwind there, so thats a good idea– in fact, a bit like the greenhouse result,” Chiefs head coach Andy Reid explained. “It was warm down there. We stated [the 40-yard line] before the video game either way, and he felt comfy with it. You saw that. He kicked enough of them from there that you got a quite good concept for what Dave was feeling before the game.”
” I believe I just got a bit more mad every kick,” he said after the game. “So the first one, I believed they called timeout, and then I recognized it was a false start. Going into the 2nd one, they called timeout once again, so in my head, thats 2 timeouts, and after that I believe I even looked at the Chargers sideline, cause Im like, Come on, man, Im trying to complete this video game and return to Kansas City.
Butkers very first 58-yarder in the third quarter tied the Chiefs franchise record for longest kick, and he connected it once again with his game-winning kick. After Sunday, Butker and Nick Lowery are the only two kickers in franchise history to strike from 58 twice. After Sunday, Butker is the only Chiefs kicker in history to make basket in 16 successive video games.
Butker made 3 successive challenging kicks after the field-goal system had an extra point obstructed previously in the video game throughout the second quarter.
Butker said since he has had previous success at those stadiums, he felt comfortable heading into Sunday against the Chargers. And before the video game, his suspicion called true.
With the video game tied at 20-20 in overtime and the Chargers having currently possessed the ball, a 53-yard field goal would win the game. And he made the kick, only offending lineman Nick Allegretti leapt the snap, moving Kansas City back 5 backyards.
Butker made a 58-yarder, only the Chargers called a timeout. By the time the 3rd 50-plus-yard kicking chance rolled around, Butker had actually been through enough.
Unique groups planner Dave Toub developed that Butkers variety would be 58 lawns– or the 40-yard line.
The Chiefs first obtained Butker throughout the 2017 season, when they signed him off the Panthers practice team. He has grown much better in each season since then, and this training school, he increased his variety to a comfortable 60 backyards.
” So that 3rd one, I seemed like was my finest kick, and I mean, to have 2 practice kicks before that is just going to assist you.”
An unique sequence at the end of the Kansas City Chiefs video game versus the Los Angeles Chargers led to an extraordinary moment for fourth-year kicker Harrison Butker.
Heading into his first game at the brand name brand-new SoFi Stadium, Butker said he checked out a post that noted its turf resembled that used at the Texans NRG Stadium and the Cowboys AT&T Stadium (I d think it was this one, by the method).
Instead of being fazed by Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn calling a timeout in an effort to ice Butker, it made him feel much better about the chance, as it offered him two extra shots.
” Im just really happy that we were able to remain through from the obstructed additional point,” included Butker. “We have a terrific basket system– James Winchester and Tommy (Townsend) holding the ball. We were able to put it through. However thats stuff that we carry out in practice and we had the ability to move it over to the game.”

It is reasonable why Patrick Mahomes stated after the game he is 100% confident in Butker, and his head coach concurred.
” Last season, I do not understand if I would have corresponded from that (58-yard) distance,” confessed Butker. “If you recall to 2017 versus the Texans– same turf, like I said. 49-yarder at the end of the video game, hardly made it over. I definitely have a more powerful leg than I did in 2017. In 2015, I had a pretty strong leg but did not have the accuracy. This offseason, I was able to make a lot of long kicks and then going into training school, I truly desired to show the coaches I could be constant from that range. I believed I remained in training camp and after that a day like today, where youre inside, basically no wind, I had the ability to strike from 67 before the video game and 70 at halftime.
“I had full trust in him,” Reid stated.
” Coach Toub understood that and he informed coach Reid that if we get to the 40-yard line, well be excellent. Last year, I do not believe I would have made all 3 of those– ideally, I would have made the last one.
” Im simply actually delighted that we were able to remain through from the obstructed additional point,” included Butker.” I believe every kickers different,” Butker discussed. Butkers first 58-yarder in the third quarter tied the Chiefs franchise record for longest kick, and he tied it once again with his game-winning kick. After Sunday, Butker and Nick Lowery are the only 2 kickers in franchise history to strike from 58 twice. After Sunday, Butker is the only Chiefs kicker in history to make field objectives in 16 consecutive games.
