Heres how Sean Koerner– the No. 1 in-season ranker in three of the previous 5 seasons according to FantasyPros– is approaching five running backs available on the waiver wire in a majority of dream football leagues in the fallout of significant injuries to their colleagues.

Mike Davis, RB, Panthers

If the Panthers begin 0-6, are they truly going to rush Christian McCaffrey back? Theres a chance CMC never returns to 100% this year– I can see them shutting him down late in the season with their sights set on quarterback possibility Trevor Lawrence.

Davis is the most safe bet for RB2 production for four to 6 weeks. If Im 0-2 in a league, Im targeting Davis.

Devonta Freeman, RB, Giants

If Im 2-0, hes the running back I would target.

The Giants formally consented to terms with Freeman, who was likely brought in to be the lead back. Dion Lewis might be the much better Week 3 play while Freeman gets up to speed on this offense, however from Week 4 on, this might be Freemans backfield– he must have RB2/3 worth through the rest of the season.

Dion Lewis, RB, Giants

Clearly, Freemans finalizing makes Lewis a tough add this week. Go for it– however dont invest more than $10 of your Free Agent Acquisition Budget if youre into three-way committee on a sub -.500 team.

Darrell Henderson, RB, Rams

The Rams backfield is extremely comparable to the Ravens– itll be musical chairs for RB2 worth moving forward. With Cam Akers (rib cartilage) banged up, I anticipate Henderson to be a fantasy RB2 this week, though Akers and Malcolm Brown cap Hendersons long-lasting benefit.

Jerick McKinnon, RB, 49ers

JM is an RB2 for at least a week given the knee injuries that Raheem Mostert and Tevin Coleman suffered this past Sunday. Theres a possibility Mostert returns in Week 4 or 5, so McKinnon might simply be a short-term leasing. However offered the injuries on the 49ers defense, more pass-happy video game scripts could favor JM.
