Sega announces Virtua Fighter esports project – Polygon

What does seem apparent is that Sega is concentrating on the competitive angle for its brand-new Virtua Fighter project, a la Puyo eSports (aka Puyo Champions), its tournament-focused puzzle game. Weve connected to Sega for more details about the Virtua Fighter x esports statement and will upgrade this story with any new information.

Sega revealed a brand-new Virtua Fighter job during a Tokyo Game Program livestream on Friday, but the nature of that project isnt yet clear. Segas calling it “Virtua Fighter x esports.”

The most current entry in the fighting video game franchise, Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown, was released in arcades in 2010, and ported to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2012. Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown is playable in the virtual arcades of numerous games in Segas Yakuza series.

What is clear is that Sega did not clearly announce a new Virtua Fighter game (i.e. Virtua Fighter 6). On the jobs official site, Sega states Virtua Fighter “will be restarted as an esports title to honor the 60th anniversary of SEGAs establishment.” A teaser video reveals mainly footage of Virtua Fighter combating video game competitions and ends with a shot of Akira Yuki, the face of the fighting franchise.
