Needing to cover themselves at safety, the New York Giants have signed safety Sean Chandler off their practice squad to their 53-man roster. As a corresponding move, they have terminated the contract of tight end Eric Tomlinson.
The move was necessitated with Jabrill Peppers out and Julian Love questionable for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams.
Chandler was already called up from the practice squad for two games this season. The Giants could not call him up for a third game without risking having to put him through waivers to return him to the practice squad for a third time. So, they have signed him to the 53-man roster.
An undrafted free agent out of Temple, Chandler has played 31 games for the Giants since first making the team in 2018.
Tomlinson was the Giants’ fourth tight end. He played Week 1 vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers, but has been inactive the past two weeks. Reports are that Tomlinson will be added to the Giants’ practice squad should no one offer him a 53-man roster spot.
