” To come in and say that you had a lot of work to do is totally false. Its a bunch of garbage!”

Matt Patricia was asked why people must still believe hes the right coach to turn the Lions around.
” When I pertained to Detroit, there was a lot of work to do. Thats what were attempting to do,” he said. pic.twitter.com/o24DOpATh5— Brad Galli (@BradGalli) October 4, 2020
Patricia is constantly loaded with excuses, and he gave a doozy throughout his press conference following the Lions 35-29 loss to the Saints. Heres how he addressed a question about why anybody should believe hes still the right coach to turn the Lions around.
Lets simply give them credit for this game. I think when I came to Detroit, there was a lot of work to do and thats what were trying to do. Talking about this year, were talking about right now, these very first four video games and certainly today wasnt good enough.”
Unless Patricia is speaking about doing work to actively make the Lions worse, hes totally full of it. He acquired a 9-7 group that was one video game far from the playoffs and ran them directly into the ground. Hes in his 3rd season as Lions head coach and the group appears to be getting gradually worse with every video game.
Previous Lions backup quarterback Dan Orlovsky, now an analyst for ESPN, ripped Patricia a new one when he appeared on the “Keyshawn, JWill & & Zubin “show Monday early morning.
” We were 11-5 in 2014 and a truly great football group. In 2015, we go 7-9, its due to the fact that we turned the football over. The last 8 games, we were (6-2). So turned our season around. Next 2 years, were 9-7 and I think in Week 17 we were playing Green Bay for a possibility to win the department. OK? So, to come in and state you had a lot of work to do is totally false. Its a lot of trash, since that wasnt the case in Detroit. “We were a good football group. Since of Coach [Matthew Stafford was playing as great as he has in his profession– that was Jim] Caldwell. And we were an organization that was rising. He was building. The culture was amazing. The culture was wonderful. You had a winning record in three out of 4 years, the culture was fantastic, your quarterback was playing actually great football. For him to come in and say there was a lot of work to be done is a lot of trash.”
You cant sum it up better than that. Orlovskys opinion was backed up by an eyewitness to both the Caldwell and Patricia eras, retired safety Glover Quin.
Detroit Lions head coach Matt Patricia has had more than 2 seasons to turn his group into the winners he assured it d be. Four games into his third season at the helm, he doesnt seem particularly near doing that. The Lions are 1-3 and they permitted the New Orleans Saints to score 35 unanswered points versus them on Sunday.
When will Patricia run out of possibilities?
Patricias been on the hot seat so long that all his pants need to be burnt to a crisp. He continues to get chance after possibility even though hes stopped working to make the Lions noticeably much better in any way.
The organizations commitment to Patricia is a lot more confusing when you consider why Patricias predecessor, Jim Caldwell, was fired. When he stopped working to take the Lions to the playoffs after a 9-7 season, Caldwell was let go at the start of 2018. At the time, general manager Bob Quinn stated that 9 wins was no longer excellent enough. Via mlive.com:

Detroit Lions head coach Matt Patricia has had more than 2 seasons to turn his team into the winners he assured it d be. The organizations devotion to Patricia is even more baffling when you think about why Patricias predecessor, Jim Caldwell, was fired. Caldwell was let go at the start of 2018 when he failed to take the Lions to the playoffs after a 9-7 season.
” We didnt beat the actually good groups,” Quinn said after the really first question following the decision. ” Our record was above average. Were 9-7 the last two years, however our record against the better teams in the league has not been that great.”
Unless Quinn implied that 9 wins was actually far too lots of for the Lions, Patricia has actually done nothing but stop working miserably as a head coach. Everyone appears to see it besides the Lions front workplace and Patricia himself.
