Alexa Arena, Googles district lead for San Jose, stated the school was designed with climate change in mind. Nearly all of the structures will be powered by solar and other types of sustainable energy– theyll even include shapes and rooflines optimized to harness the power of the sun. To lower single-car usage, Google will develop the campus in such a way thatll enable people to gain access to 65 percent of it through bike, public transit, foot or carpool. Plus, the campus will have environmental watching areas constructed to raise awareness about various ecological concerns. Arena stated those aspects are “a substantial step forward in [Googles] battle against climate modification, which we can experience so acutely in Northern California today.”
