Unless youre a diehard cinephile, its normally a waste to spend more than $1,000 on a TELEVISION. Sure, OLED (natural light-emitting diode) screens have near-perfect black levels because each pixel serves as its own backlight, but standard LED-backlit TVs still look quite fantastic and normally expense about half as much. The price-to-performance ratio hasnt been excellent enough for me to inform anybody however the most severe lovers to think about an OLED.
Just a few years earlier, a 55-inch variation of a TV like the Sony A8H OLED (8/10, WIRED Recommends) would have cost a few thousand dollars, and I would have informed you not to bother. Now that theyre progressively sliding toward a single Grover Cleveland, its a good time to take another appearance at one of our favorite TVs of the year.
Its currently down to about $1,300, and though Amazon shows this deal as $200 off, it has actually been priced at about $1,900 since mid-May. It might increase in cost after Amazons Prime Day sale ends at midnight Pacific tonight.

Why We Like It.
Like LGs OLED TVs (this Sony utilizes LGs screen tech), the A8H is a remarkably nice television. Fellow equipment customer Jess Grey calls it “dynamic and so realistic it appears like youre peering through a window into another world.” Sony has some of the very best video and audio processing technology, and it shows on the A8H. Picture quality is astonishing, with lifelike and vivid colors and perfect shading that makes whatever feel as though youre enjoying it for the first time.
Its thinner than a smartphone in some spots and comes with a Google TV interface, which isnt as great as Roku however works much better than numerous wise TV operating systems.
Another clever feature? The A8Hs speakers are constructed into the screen, though we believe you must buy a soundbar or surround system if youre investing this sort of cash on a TELEVISION.
We still believe the TCL 6-Series (9/10, WIRED Recommends) is the finest TV of the year for the majority of people, but if youre a real television geek or movie enthusiast, this offer is definitely worth a peek. You wont find a prettier model for this sort of cash.
