Would you save the wine or the baby? Video shows woman grabbing glass of fizz and letting tot fall – Daily Mail

Priorities! Moment grandmother lets her grandchild fall to the floor while saving a glass of fizz

  • Viral video clip shows a grandmother at a table with her young grandchild
  • The tot, who’s stood up, reaches for a glass of fizz left on the table; the woman quickly grabs the glass but lets go of the child, who falls to the floor with a bump
  • More than six million people have viewed clip with many saying she could have actually prevented a more serious accident by stopping the glass from smashing

A video showing a grandmother faced with the toughest of dilemmas – whether to save a glass of bubbles from tumbling to the floor or her own young grandchild – has gone viral.

The answer for the lady in question, believed to be from the US, was clearly at the bottom of the flute – and the hilarious clip shows the baby hurtling floorbound while the glass of fizz is saved, albeit with half of its contents gone.

The video, entitled ‘And Grandmother of the year award goes to…’ was posted to Imgur earlier this week, and has already had more than six million views since it was also shared to Twitter.

I'll take that! A video posted to Imgur this week shows a curious tot reaching out for a glass of wine, which is sitting on a coffee table in front of him. His grandmother is supporting him with an arm around the waist - until she sees what he's about to do

However, it's the wine not the baby that she grabs...rescuing the glass but also removing her supporting arm in the process - sending the young child floorwards

On Twitter, opinion was divided over the lady’s actions. While many said the grandmother should have put the child first, others defended her, saying she could have actually prevented a more serious accident by stopping the glass from shattering.

In the brief clip, the baby, wearing a navy striped onesy, reaches for his grandmother’s tall glass, which is perched on the coffee table they’re leaning against.

When the woman notices, she moves quickly to take the glass out of the infant’s hand and becomes so consumed with protecting its contents, she removes her supporting hand from the baby’s waist.

The inevitable happens and the baby falls sideways to the floor before just his feet are visible in the shot.

@Musmu1203 was among those defending the actions of the lady, saying: ‘If the glass fell with the baby, it would have broken and the baby would have been hurt. She did I the right thing.’

@Matt_Dean1994 added: ‘As a parent, let the baby fall. Babies bounce. When they fall they’re fine almost every time. The glass could have broken and then the baby is at risk of cutting themselves on shards of glass.’
