Remember Marvel’s Avengers? Yeah, that came out on PlayStation 4 just over a month ago but you wouldn’t think so. Since the hubbub of the game’s launch, active player numbers have plummeted across all platforms, providing those who still want to suit up as one of the six superheroes with matchmaking problems. And now, if you want to experience the title on PlayStation 5, that wait has now been extended through into 2021. Crystal Dynamics has today officially confirmed a delay for the next-gen version.
Writing on the Square Enix blog, the developer said: “We’ve also made the decision to shift our PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S launch to next year to ensure that we give our team the time to deliver a next-gen experience showcasing all that this game is meant to be. More details to come.” The first free post-launch content drop centred around Kate Bishop has also been pushed out of this month to a later date.
Crystal Dynamics promises that Marvel’s Avengers will still look and run better via backwards compatibility on PS5 with faster load times and improved frame rates. You’ll also still be able to play with friends on PS4. However, if you were looking for a superhero undertaking beyond Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales to really utilise the next-gen system, you’ll now have to wait until next year.
