From there, however, BYUs defense stood high. On five fourth-quarter belongings as the visitors scored the video games last 29 points, BYUs defense forced three straight punts and a turnover on down before Houston merely ran out the clock on its last ownership down 17.

While BYU didnt score on the ensuing belongings, it changed the game, and in particular field position. After a poor Houston punt netted simply 13 lawns a few minutes later, BYU rapidly pounced to take the lead on a short 23-yard scoring drive.

BYU ended the night with 478 yards of overall offense, balancing 8.1 lawns on 59 plays– 18 less than Houston ran. BYU struggled on 3rd down, though, converting simply 3 of 10.

BYU hasnt had lots of circumstances this year where it required its unique groups to come up big. Friday night, however, a gutsy onsides kick swung the momentum.

Houstons ball control offense continued to stymie BYU on the home groups first possession of the second half, when Houston drove 98 backyards on 16 plays and scored a goal– its 4th straight ownership with a score– to increase 26-14 after a failed two-point conversion.

The overall effort might be closer to a B to B+ variety, but the resurgence effort and the magnitude of this video game for the Cougars– BYU remains undefeated at 5-0, with its next huge road test in 3 weeks at Boise State following two home video games– raise the overall grade.

Once once again, Zach Wilson was brilliant. This time, he set profession highs with 400 passing lawns and 4 touchdowns through the air. His favorite target was junior receiver Dax Milne, who likewise had a career night with nine catches for 184 backyards and 3 touchdowns.

Freshman punter Ryan Rehkow again had a strong night, balancing 45.8 backyards on five punts and he booted a career-long 61-yarder. BYU did quit a long punt go back to set up Houstons consent goal, but otherwise, it was a standout night for BYUs special groups.

Still, BYUs pass game was on point and the rushing attack started a bit in the fourth quarter. Wilsons 32-yard run in the first quarter was great, resulting in a touchdown, but his 24-yard scamper was even larger, as it helped BYU maintain ownership up three points in the 4th and caused Milnes 3rd TD grab that put BYU up 10.

BYUs rushing attack had a hard getting on track for many of the night. Provide credit to Houston, which twice stopped BYU on third-and-1 plays and tackled Masen Wake for a 1-yard loss on a fourth-and-1 at the Houston 2 prior to halftime to avoid BYU from regaining the lead. Wilson was sacked twice, too.

During the third and 2nd quarters, BYU had couple of responses for attempting to stop the Houston offense and quarterback Clayton Tune. That fourth quarter effort, however, was simply what the BYU protectors required.

Special Teams.

Two times in the fourth, BYU held Houston to a three-and-out and Houston, which completed with 438 lawns of overall offense but simply 20 in the last quarter, never advanced beyond its own 32. Tune, who ended the day with 310 backyards passing and 2 touchdowns on 21 of 31 death, finished simply 1 of 7 passes in the fourth.

Overall.

BYUs rushing attack had a tough getting on track for most of the night. Give credit to Houston, which two times stopped BYU on third-and-1 plays and dealt with Masen Wake for a 1-yard loss on a fourth-and-1 at the Houston 2 just before halftime to prevent BYU from regaining the lead.

Minutes after BYU had cut the Houston result in 26-21 late in the 3rd quarter, the visitors chose to try and catch Houston off-guard with an onsides kick, and the play worked as reserve receiver Talmage Gunther quickly snagged the kick near midfield, with no Houston gamer close enough to make a play on the ball.

BYU had 2 quarters it would like to forget Friday night, however the other two quarters– particularly the 4th– were ample to bring this grade up.
