Virgil van Dijk and Thiago Alcantara were both on the receiving end of dangerous challenges against Everton. We can debate whether those challenges should’ve happened all day, but it is what it is. We are where we are, and we’re dealing with two serious injuries
There were reports last night that Van Dijk may have done his ACL, but these are understood to be premature, according to Neil Jones of Goal. Van Dijk is awaiting scan results, and there will be no news until then.
Furthermore, David Lynch reports at This Is Anfield that Liverpool and Van Dijk are awaiting the results from a specialist on the matter. Lynch states this will happen today, but the information may not be made public until a later date.
To be honest, I don’t think anyone has any idea what Van Dijk’s situation is until the scan results are made public.
As for Thiago, Lynch says that Liverpool “are hopeful that [his] problem is not as serious as Van Dijk’s, even if they must wait for swelling to ease before making further assessment”. And that’s really it. We won’t know until we know, and anyone speculating imminently is bullshitting.
Look, these injuries might be very bad. We just don’t know. What we do know is that the internet runs on shock and outrage, so the incentives are there for everyone to claim immediately that the injuries are very serious. And no one knows this.
Just go and enjoy your Sunday. Don’t worry about it. Whatever it is is whatever it is. We can worry about this on another day. Chill.
