There are plenty of interesting storylines as the 2020 Zozo Championship begins, especially considering this event serves as the last of three straight PGA Tour events on the West Coast before intrigue turns back East toward the Masters at Augusta National. Tiger Woods is playing for the first time in a month, and the 2019 champion of this tournament is trying to go back-to-back at an event for the first time since the 2012 and 2013 Arnold Palmer Invitationals.
Jon Rahm and Xander Schauffele are both trying to turn recent elite play into a win before the final major of the year. Rory McIlroy and Collin Morikawa — two of the eight top-10 golfers in the world who are playing this week — both have a few things to tune up before Augusta. Justin Thomas, currently the No. 3 player in the world, is also trying to stay hot with another Masters bid on the horizon.
Add it all up and this event should be a bit more intense than normal in the middle of October. While PGA Tour pros always play for a ton of money in these no-cut events, they don’t often have a major in November to prepare for like they will this time around.
