Antonio Brown to Seahawks talk heats up. And did LeVeon Bell forget he played for Steelers? – TribLIVE

Ah, the good old days for bored Steelers fans.

Like way back in … 2019.

When you could just log onto the internet and be slapped in the face with five or six different stories, rumors and headlines about former Black and Gold All-Pros Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell.

Well, it appears those days are back. Because on Wednesday, Bell was introduced as a member of his new team in Kansas City. And Brown may also have a new employer very quickly after his eight-game suspension ends.

Let’s start with Bell, who had his introductory Q&A with K.C. media members.

OK, Bell probably didn’t mean it this way. But …

When asked about joining the Chiefs Wednesday, the former Steelers running back did his best to praise his new quarterback, Patrick Mahomes.

Perhaps inadvertently, he may have slighted his old teammates in Pittsburgh.

“Patty Mahomes … I’ve never played with a player MVP-wise so it’s gonna be fun. I think it’s a lot of weapons, it’s gonna be fun for me.”

Technically, Bell is right.

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has never been an MVP. Brown either. But they do have 13 Pro Bowls between them.

Those were some pretty good weapons, weren’t they, Le’V?

Maybe Bell was just so emotionally scarred by his recent experience in New York with the Jets that he can’t even remember his playing days in Pittsburgh anymore.

Yeah. Let’s go with that.

Meanwhile, the Seattle Seahawks are allegedly the team with the most interest in signing Brown once his NFL suspension ends after Week 8.

That’s according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Brown hasn’t played since Week 2 of last season after he was released by the New England Patriots in the wake of accusations of sexual misconduct and intimidation of one of his accusers.

I’m not sure why Seattle would be the team willing to take the chance of signing the oft-troubled ex-Steelers wide receiver. After all, they have standout pass catchers DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett.

Do they need more offense? The Hawks are leading the NFL in points per game at 33.8. But they are last in total defense at 471 yards allowed per game.

What’s Brown going to do? Play safety? Seattle coach Pete Carroll didn’t do much to tamp down the discussion, though.

If the Seahawks don’t sign Brown, NBC Sports Washington is speculating the Baltimore Ravens might. That would make more sense. They are only averaging 177 yards passing per game. That’s the second-lowest average in the NFL.

It sure looks ike Ravens defensive back Marlon Humphrey is pushing that agenda.

Meanwhile Ken Laird, my former colleague here at TribLive and at WEEI in Boston, is lobbying for a reunion of Brown and Robert Kraft in New England. The Pats are 25th in passing offense at 207 yards per game.

Hey, Cam Newton and A.B. are tight. But, sorry, Ken. I don’t see that one happening. I’d believe the Ravens long before I believe the Patriots.

That said, I’d prefer to believe none of the above. I’m plenty happy in a world without Mr. Big Chest in the NFL.
