Florida State football fell to 2-4 today, as the Louisville Cardinals thoroughly outplayed them for 60 minutes of football. Coming off their big win against North Carolina, the ‘Noles fell by a score of 48-16, their second 30+ point loss of the season. FSU fell due to penalties, missed tackles, and dropped passes. All self-inflicted wounds that Norvell emphasized this week. Until those are limited on a consistent basis, the ‘Noles are going to struggle.
Here’s what the head coach had to say after the game:
On the defense: “Defensively, gave up way too many explosives. Couple of plays in man-to-man coverage. Didn’t do much to slow them up today.”
“Everybody’s got to make sure we’re communicating and playing as one unit. When you get the opportunity to make the plays, make the play.”
On the mistakes, growing pains: “We got a lot of work to do within our program, have to continue to learn from these lessons.”
“The same things that showed up early in the season are still showing up, so we have to reevaluate how we are holding up that standard.”
“You’re not going to be successful if those things continue to show up.”
On Jordan Travis: “Jordan was a little banged up this last week. Did a good job of practicing and working through that. We want him to be smart, get what he can get, keep that playmaking ability.”
On Chubba Purdy: “Jordan was a little banged up, wanted to get Chubba an opportunity after he was cleared this week. Think it’s a great learning experience for him.”
On James Blackman and Ron Dugans: “Those two guys did not make the trip due to illness.”
On the future:“I want to see growth. I want to see application of the lessons you’ve learned. There’s going to be mistakes that show up. In the moment, we have to make sure we’re playing the game it’s supposed to be played.”
