‘Destiny 2’ Reveals Beyond Light Roadmap And Huge Season Of The Hunt Plot Turn – Forbes

Bungie just went live with a whole lot of Destiny 2 information this morning. There’s a new 14 minute ViDoc which you can watch below, a roadmap for Beyond Light and its attached season, Season of the Hunt, and the complete and utter destruction of one of my biggest fan theories.

Oh well.

So, I would recommend that you watch the ViDoc before you do anything else, as we are going to get into spoiler territory going forward. I will say that probably 80% of the ViDoc is going back over information about Europa, Stasis, Eramis and some new exotics that we’ve already gotten over the past few weeks, though it’s always nice to see the team, and there is some new footage in there, including a lot of looks at those wild new Harpies with legs. Also someone can freeze frame all the Aspects and Fragments they showed, with some new information there.

The real dirt comes near the end when we learn details about Season of the Hunt, which is brand new information that shows how separated out the seasonal content will be from Beyond Light.

Season of the Hunt’s storyline has us going to the Cosmodrome where we will help Osiris investigate something weird and bad Xivu Arath is doing to the Hive there. But wait! Who’s that!

Yes, that’s right Uldren is back, and Bungie decided to murder my theories about how Shaw Han was secretly Uldren, when really he’s just some guy who looks like Aztecross. The Awoken Prince is returning, but not in any secret way, just as a part of this storyline, as a new Guardian who is helping Osiris and us take on this Hive threat. We are returning to Uldren’s storyline for the first time in two years, which needless to say is very exciting for the community, and he looks to be a major character going forward, potentially.

We also had this shot, which appears to show Zavala and Osiris working directly with the Cabal? And not even shiny purple and gold Calus Cabal?

Another major reveal is the entire roadmap of the season, which you can see in larger form here, if you want.

There’s a lot to go through here, so I’ll try to bullet point it a bit:

– First of all, this is no shorter season, despite the delay. The roadmap has it running through (until?) February, which is four months. This implies to me that they may be cutting out a season this year, if they plan on returning to a September 2021 expansion date (which they should). Though if it ends right at the beginning of February, perhaps not. (Update: Bungie confirms to me there will be four seasons this year).

– There is a new activity called “Empire Hunts” which shows a photo of one of the Beyond Light lieutenants. A week later “Wraithborn Hunts” begin, and these have the Cosmodrome logo attached to them instead.

– The new Europa strike arrives on day one (I mean, duh) while Trials of Osiris starts just three days later on November 13, which I know some are not happy about. The raid is November 21, which we already knew.

– The seasonal artifact is some Fallen looking device, not the darkness shard that I thought it would be, which apparently has some role in the Beyond Light campaign instead.

– There is a list of exotics at the bottom which only adds a single new one that I didn’t recognize, Duality. It does not list any returning Destiny 1 exotics besides Hawkmoon and No Time to Explain, meaning that perhaps no, there are no returning D1 exotic armor pieces returning like some were hoping.

– “Uncover Europa’s Secrets” is an entry listed from the start date to January 12. But if the season runs through February, why does it stop there? That’s weird. Even the Dawning ends January 5, so I’m not sure why Season of the Hunt is running through/to February and what happens in those extra weeks/month.

Anyway, there is probably more to dissect but that’s all I’ve got for now. Exciting times to be sure. Two weeks away now.
