Wisconsin Badgers football: Week 2 depth chart released – Buckys 5th Quarter

Late on Monday night, the Wisconsin Badgers released their depth chart for their Week 2 matchup at the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Halloween. Despite there being reports of starting QB Graham Mertz testing positive for COVID-19 over the weekend, there are no changes to the depth chart from Week 1.

Week 2 depth chart, same as the Week 1 depth chart

Head coach Paul Chryst said during his media availability on Monday morning that he would not be discussing anything regarding the COVID testing for the team and whether or not any team members have tested positive. Chryst praised the testing guidelines put in place by the Big Ten conference and also mentioned that he was “confident about going forward this week.”

It is interesting to note all of the “ors” still on the depth chart. For instance at punter, Andy Vujnovich punted all four times the Badgers needed to yet he is still listed as a co-starter with Conor Schlichting. In another instance, true freshman OLB Nick Herbig started over Izayah Green-May and acquitted himself nicely with a sack and a pass break up in his first college game yet they are still listed as co-starters.

It makes sense that Garrett Groshek and Nakia Watson are listed as co-starters at tailback since Groshek saw 13 carries (also caught four passes) and Watson received 19. Those guys are truly sharing duties in the backfield. Hell, even Isaac Guerendo got 11 carries on the night.

When looking at the same exact depth chart from the first game, despite all of the reports going around, you wonder if Coach Dad is playing 8-D chess and trying to make Nebraska prepare for all possible lineups or if there were a bunch of false positives in one batch of tests and it turns out everyone is fine.

Tweets like this, however, leave me less confident, and more confused, than ever.
