On Thursday, the Ducks announced that they’ll be wearing the Nike Vapor Fusion Nightmare green uniform jersey with yellow helmets this Saturday night as Oregon kicks off against the Stanford Cardinal at 4:30pm PT on ABC.
The uniform resembles the “Oregon Football 2.0” uniforms the Ducks wore in 2018 but have a few minor differences. The numbers feature perforated numbering, with an Oregon “O” moved to the right breastplate instead of a “Ducks” graphic in the 2018 uniforms.
Over the summer, Oregon Football Equipment administrator Kenny Farr joined Oregon’s Virtual Happy Hour with GoDucks.com Editor Rob Moseley to explain how Oregon’s uniforms go from an idea to being worn on the field.
One of the biggest things that Farr noted is that the current and former players have a good deal of input into what Oregon wears.
“Thinking about designing uniforms, our players do have input in that,” Farr explained. “We have a bunch of former Ducks that are actually in solved with that process. Some of the people that work closely with us at Nike.”
Some of the former Ducks that have gone on to work at Nike include a standout wide receiver for the Ducks earlier this decade, plus other familiar names..
“I get to work at Nike with Daryle Hawkins, a former wide receiver here. He’s the chief uniform designer for us and he’s unreal, unbelievable at his job.” Farr also mentions former Duck players Brandon McLemore, Mattrell McGraw, and Bronson Yim who work with Oregon on designing uniforms for Nike.
Oregon’s current players have input as well but the process to get a uniform from a design to the field may not mean the player would actually get to put on that specific uniform.
“Mind you, when we design a uniform or come up with a design for a uniform, we’re working 18-24 months out. So a junior or senior may come up with an idea but he won’t ever really get to wear that uniform because it won’t come out for two or three seasons,” said Farr.
