Steve Cohen stumbled upon some money Wednesday, and he’ll be putting it to good use.
Following Robinson Cano’s PED suspension for the entirety of the 2021 season, the Mets suddenly have a $24 million void on their books for one year.
That gives the already-eager Cohen more leeway to spend, and that’s exactly what he’ll be doing based on his comments Wednesday night.
A fan asked Cohen on Twitter, “What is the plan for the $24MM you found today? Let’s start with bullpen carts.”
Cohen had other plans in mind.
“Spend it on players,” he said. “Bullpen cart can wait.”
The absence of Cano leaves a bit of a void in the Mets’ infield, and they could explore the possibility of outbidding the Yankees for their free-agent star DJ LeMahieu.
